Recent graduates of Plateau State University have continued to express frustration over prolonged delays in their clearance process, nearly eight months after signing out in August 2025.
The growing discontent, which has dominated online discussions among affected students has raised concerns over what many describe as a recurring administrative failure by the institution to process graduating students for the next phase of their careers and national Youths service NYSC.

Following sustained agitations by the graduates on social media and other platforms, the university management, through the Dean of the Directorate of Student Affairs, issued a memo dated April 27, 2026, directing all prospective corps members to commence clearance procedures from April 29, 2026.
However, investigations by concerned graduates revealed that only the Departments of Computer Science and Biochemistry had reportedly begun the process, while several other departments remained silent, leaving thousands of students uncertain about their fate.
In the Department of Mass Communication, the Head of Department, Adeyanju Apejoye, was said to have repeatedly assured graduates that they would be contacted “in the coming days for clearance.” Yet, weeks after the announcement, affected students say no significant progress has been made.
The situation has further intensified criticism of the institution’s handling of graduating students. Many observers noted that the previous graduating set also experienced a similar delay of about five months before their clearance process commenced, a development critics say reflects a troubling pattern of administrative inefficiency.

Parents of affected students are also beginning to raise serious concerns over the prolonged uncertainty surrounding their children’s academic status.“Some parents are already asking whether their children have truly graduated or not” one affected graduate lamented.
The lingering delay has not only fueled frustration among students and parents but has also sparked fears about the institution’s public image and credibility among prospective applicants.
Stakeholders are now urging the university management to urgently address the situation, accelerate the clearance process across all departments, and restore confidence in the institution’s academic administration.
