The Berom Youths Moulder-Association, BYM has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of 28-year-old Joseph Dauda Mwanti and the injury of 33-year-old Joshua Mwanvwang in Wereng Community, Riyom LGA.
The attack, which occurred last night was allegedly carried out by bandits operating from the Fass settlement of Jol Community, despite early warnings issued to relevant authorities.
The association condemns the act as another instance of terrorism targeting innocent citizens, faulting the authorities for failing to act proactively on the alert that could have prevented the tragedy. It describes the persistent attacks as a genocidal mission against the Berom people and warns that continued negligence might push communities to embrace self-defence.
The BYM further calls on Plateau residents, particularly those of Berom origin, to heighten vigilance, report suspicious movements, and strengthen collaboration with local security outfits to curb future attacks and safeguard their communities.
