Manasseh Mutfwang of Plateau State has officially resigned his membership in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), ending months of speculation regarding his political future.

In a formal letter dated December 29, 2025, addressed to the Ward Chairman of the PDP in Ampang West, Mangu Local Government Area, the Governor stated that his resignation takes “immediate effect.”
The document, which was formally received and signed by the Ward Chairman, Mr. Dasjak Sunday Longyut, on December 30, marks a seismic shift in the North Central political landscape.

While expressing gratitude to the PDP for providing him with the platform to serve, Governor Mutfwang cited a need for “purposeful leadership” and “clarity of direction” as the primary drivers for his exit.”
Given the realities of the moment and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform,” the Governor wrote.
The resignation follows a series of reports in late December indicating that the Governor was under immense pressure to align with the center. His political advisers had previously hinted at internal crises within the PDP as a major factor, describing a move to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a “strategic assessment of political risks.”

National APC leadership had already signaled their readiness to welcome Mutfwang. With this move, the APC now effectively controls all states in the North Central geopolitical zone, significantly strengthening its position ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Though the letter does not explicitly name his new party, it is widely expected that Governor Mutfwang will formally join the APC in the coming days. Sources within the Government House in Jos suggest a high-profile reception ceremony is being planned for early January to welcome the Governor into the ruling party’s fold.
The PDP has yet to issue an official statement regarding the loss of one of its most prominent governors in the region.
