A member of the Plateau State House of Assembly representing Jos South Constituency, Honourable Dalyop Isaac Gyang, has raised concern over the continued attacks on residents of his constituency and other parts of the state.

Gyang, who also serves as the Chief Whip of the House, raised the issue during plenary on Monday, January 5, 2026, where he moved a motion of urgent public importance on the recurring killings by armed assailants.
Addressing lawmakers, he said innocent people were being killed while many of the attackers go unpunished. He added that the situation has left families displaced and traumatised, and has also disrupted farming and other economic activities in affected communities.

The lawmaker disclosed that at least 18 people from his constituency were killed within a one-month period. He said nine people were killed on New Year’s Eve in Chugwi, while two others were killed in Gyel and seven artisanal miners were killed in Kuru between January 20 and 21, 2026.
While acknowledging efforts by the state government, Gyang urged authorities to intensify security measures to protect lives and property, describing security as a primary responsibility of government.
He also called for the inclusion of local security groups such as vigilantes and hunters in intelligence gathering and surveillance. According to him, strengthening community-based early warning and rapid response systems would help prevent future attacks.

The lawmaker further appealed to the government to provide relief, rehabilitation, and resettlement support for survivors and families affected by the attacks.
